our son has reached the age of talking about christmas. this came to me as a little suprise when adrian had to ryan and i, "i want a christmas tree" or maybe it was "go to mountains, get christmas tree". uummm, it was september when he was asking for the christmas tree. we have no idea where his thought came from but he beats at his own drum sometimes so who knows we laughed thinking he was joking. we told him we couldn't get a tree because we have to wait until christmas. so it went, for days and weeks and now months of asking for a christmas tree.
our next christmas experience with him came in october, a few weeks after Kayla was home. i assumed that Kayla would be getting a few gifts from some family and friends after she was home with us. i was worried about how adrian would react with her getting presents and attention. i had taken a day to pick up a few little toys for him. something new he could have while he was adjusting to a new life in our home. adrain loves trains, LOVES LOVES LOVES trains!! i bought him a geo track car for him to play with after Kayla was at home and when the gifts started to arrive. he was so excited the day i gave him the toy. inside the package was a paper that had pictures of other geo track trains and cars to buy. at first he was picking out what he had at home. he soon realized that some trains on the paper were in his geo track movie. we heard this "look mom/dad", he pointed to this train. then it came "adrian have that?"
here it come....my mind starts to try and figure this out. i try not to tell him no because i want no's to be positive. (like mom can i have a fruit snack...mom's reply 'when you eat your lunch then you can have a fruit snack' or mom can i watch tv? mom's reply 'when you put your toys away then you can watch tv') does that make sense? in my mind i am thinking "i don't want to buy this toy, he has enough toys" what can i tell him. and of course, i don't want to hear the screaming and see the throwing of a fit because he didn't get his way. then the thought comes to me CHRISTMAS and SANTA!! i begin to tell him that santa brings 1 gift to him and kayla at christmas. if that is what he wants then he has to ask santa but you have to be "good" to get the present. he says ok. i had to tell him it would be awhile for him to see santa.
for now, everywhere we go he tells people "ask santa for train" and of course, he still wants his christmas tree.......just thought this might bring some memories back for a few of you and for others you know what i am talking about.
